ABOUT OUR PASTOR
As a young boy, Vernon attended Allen Temple CME church under the leadership of the late Thomas L. Strayhand and he accepted Christ into his life at the age of twelve. At the age of fifteen, Vernon became more conscious of the call and the will of God for his life. After much prayer and seeking God, he became a member of Greater Solid Rock Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop A. R. Hopkins.
As a student, he excelled and always made sure to do his best. He attended the University of Portland and graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelor of Science degree, Magna Cum Laude.
Vernon was employed by Qwest Communications for twenty years in customer service, sales, management and public policy. He has also owned and operated successful insurance agencies for American Family and Allstate for several years.
Pastor Norris felt the Call of God to proclaim His Word and he was licensed to preach the Gospel on June 17th 1979 under the late Bishop H. B. Daniels. He has worked and served in various capacities within the church including, Assistant Pastor, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth President, Financial Chairman and director of the Teens For Christ.
Vernon served at Greater Solid Rock Church for over thirty years but the call to establish and birth a new ministry weighed heavily upon Vernon's heart. After months of prayer, fasting and seeking God for direction, the vision for Blessed Temple Community Church became a reality. In June of 2005 our first service was held and God continues to show us His favor.
God has blessed the ministry with a diverse membership. People who have been a part of the worship service always say that they can feel the Love of God and the love of the Blessed Temple Community Church family. A church where the hurting, depressed, confused and those who have lost hope can find: Salvation, Love, Healing, Forgiveness, Guidance, Encouragement, Hope and Acceptance.
Pastor Norris is married to his loving wife Janice who works side by side in ministry in many areas of the church and they have four children, Vernon Jr., Dominique, Victoria and Leigh.
